I, For One, Welcome Our New Chewing Squid Overlords

Someone call P.Z.! A new species of squid that can chew it's food! Lock up the Oreos and the Doublemint!

[link] A squid that chews. Among the 80,000 organisms – encompassing 354 families, genera and species – that Census deep-sea investigators collected from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge was the reference specimen or holotype for a new species of squid: Promachoteuthis sloani. Although collection easily damages the soft cephalopods, the hard beaks are unique to each species, including that of the new squid, which looks quite capable of chewing its food.

Many more pictures can be found here. "Promachoteuthis sloani is known from two specimens: the smaller holotype, an immature female 58 mm ML and a paratype, an immature female, 102 mm ML. The paratype was captured by the R/V WALTER HERWIG in 1973 while the holotype was captured by the R/V G.O. SARS in 2004 and was in near-perfect condition. Both were taken from the North Atlantic in nets that fished to depths greater than 2,000 m. Virtually nothing is known of their biology."

people

I agree with it.

awsome!

This reminds me of a monster designer, he said the scariest monsters are a mix of human/humanoid parts (like a very human-looking mouth) in an otherwise completely inhuman body. Totally awsome!
