Katherine Harris Is Insane
The Republican Representative from Florida, Katherine Harris, has gone completely off the deep end and has entered into "dangerous lunatic" territory. She is the type of politician that will do her damnedest to push this country into a repressive, dominionist Christian theocracy.
[Katherine Harris] "If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris told interviewers from the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention. She cited abortion and same-sex marriage as examples of that sin.
Harris, a candidate in the Sept. 5 Republican primary for U.S. Senate, said her religious beliefs "animate" everything she does, including her votes in Congress.
Nice. It's the Dominionist viewpoint in a nutshell, from a nut, no less. But this particular nut is up for elected office and has a chance of being elected to the U.S. Senate by her fellow Floridians.
Do you want this wild-eyed fruitcake to have a say in designing legislation for the United States as a whole? Frankly, it scares the crap out of me.
Harris told the journalists "we have to have the faithful in government" because that is God's will. Separating religion and politics is "so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers," she said.
Hmnn. Odd. I was always under the impression that the voters chose our elected representatives. What fucking alternate pseudo-America is this wackjob living in where the divine hand of a magical god chooses "rulers" for us?
Holy shit, people. I mean, wow. Just... wow.
"And if we are the ones not actively involved in electing those godly men and women," then "we're going to have a nation of secular laws. That's not what our Founding Fathers intended, and that certainly isn't what God intended."
Gasp! A nation of secular laws!? Why, that would be, would be... Constitutional, you freak!
It floors me that we elect clearly insane people like Rep. Harris. What the heck is going on out there, Florida? Is this your best and brightest? An insane Governor and an insane Representative who's running for the Senate now?
After the negative opinion started pouring in, Harris' public relations monkeys worked overtime on a blurb for distribution:
"Congresswoman Harris encourages Americans from all walks of life and faith to participate in our government," it stated. "She continues to be an unwavering advocate of religious rights and freedoms."
Uh, huh. Sure she does.
You can stop this. It's up to you to go to the polls and vote this insane theocratic kingmaker out of office. This is not just Florida anymore - you're fucking with the rest of the country now. Your country needs your help at this most critical time.
Don't let us down. Re-elect Democratic Senator Bill Nelson.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
...but didn't Nelson vote for the torture bill?
One little point on the logic of her argument
If God selects our "rulers," why bother campaigning?
Get that feeling
I just get the feeling from Katherine Harris, and frankly a lot of religious folk, that they missed their civics lessons in High School and have no idea how our country was designed to run.
It always makes me nervous to see this people run for office or even vote.
Completely unhinged.
The woman is completely unhinged. Here's a diary I did on dKos about her latest screw-up a month or so ago, focusing on the fact that she seemed to be in a complete reality melt-down: Shadan7
I like it when a dominionist pol is so completely whack that even the other Republicans run away from her. Few better thing can happen than for these people to be thoroughly and completely trounced at the polls come election day, to show just how unwanted they are in our politics.

First of all...
First of all, if xtians cannot agree enough to worship together, which of the hundreds of denominations will be in charge of our new theocracy should they actually take over? I bet most of them are going to be really suprised when their little group does not become king of mountain.
Second, our Framers (mostly religious people) had several months to include all the religion they wanted in our new government. I have found none.
Third, this woman is clearly insane, or clearly a liar, or clearly an insane liar. I see red when people who should know better, and probably do know better, brazenly misrepresent the intentions of our Framers for political gain.
Fourth, ya'll should just move to Tenneess where reason, rationality, and scientific thought reign supreme.
Ah yes, the Kingdom of America
Or at least the chief arguement for a monarchy is that God chooses who is born as the crown prince and so they have recieved the ability to rule through divine right. This is why I laugh and shake my head every time I see a Christian claim that democracy came from God.
I really hate it how people always point to the founders and say "they would have wanted this" or "they would have hated this" whenever they want to make people agree with them.
So this is the same woman who oversaw the infamous 2000 recounts ... Shit.
Divine Right
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...
...but wasn't one of the reasons for 1776 to bury the idea of the "divine right of kings"?
So were the founders just joking or is Harris just plain un-American?
I'm just askin', I'd hate to have to delete Locke's Two Treatises of Government off my hard drive. I think I read somewhere that they had a HUGE influence on the formation of the American nation state. Of course I (and about a thousand historians) could have been wrong.
