Is this man the luckiest or the unluckiest person in the world?

Hard to say:

Japanese man certified as double A-bomb survivor

TOKYO — A 93-year-old Japanese man has become the first person certified as a survivor of both U.S. atomic bombings at the end of the Second World War, officials said Tuesday.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi had already been a certified “hibakusha,” or radiation survivor, of the Aug. 9, 1945, atomic bombing in Nagasaki, but has now been confirmed as surviving the attack on Hiroshima three days earlier as well, city officials said.

Mr. Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip on Aug. 6, 1945, when a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on the city. He suffered serious burns to his upper body and spent the night in the city. He then returned to his hometown of Nagasaki just in time for the second attack, city officials said.

“As far as we know, he is the first one to be officially recognized as a survivor of atomic bombings in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” Nagasaki city official Toshiro Miyamoto said. “It's such an unfortunate case, but it is possible that there are more people like him.”

Wow.

More than one

Actually there was close to 200 people who experienced both bombings as they were seeking refuge in Nagasaki after Hiroshima. In 2006 a documentary film debuted called "Niijuuhibaku" that features 7 or of these survivors including Mr. Yamaguchi

Bad travel plans

Some years ago in the Richmond Times-Dispatch there was an article about a guy who went on vacation to South Carolina, got caught in a hurricane, returned home, got caught in a hurricane, and was present at the World's Series game where the California earthquake hit. The title of the article? "He's not welcome at our house."

Winner or loser

It's tough to tell whether or not to call this guy a winner or loser. For loser: Being in the vicinity of 2 nuclear blasts. For winner: Making it to 93!

Make the call folks!

He "wins"

Here in town this week a guy was driving down the street and a huge telephone pole and transformer just fell over on his car, crushing it. He survived with only minor injuries.

I think Yamaguchi has him beat, though.

paraphrased

I think this can be paraphrased up as "being in the wrong places at the wrong times"
