Um, Governor? Dude, shut-up.

So, will the next press conference Gov. Mark Sanford holds feature a "highlights of my sex life" video, or what? I mean, seriously, the guy seems to be going out of his way to see just how far he can push things before even the Republicans in his state get fed up. From yesterday's presser:

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said Tuesday that he "crossed lines" with a handful of women other than his mistress — but never had sex with them. The governor said he "never crossed the ultimate line" with anyone but Maria Belen Chapur, the Argentine at the center of a scandal that has derailed his once-promising political career.

* * *

He said that during the encounters with other women he "let his guard down" with some physical contact but "didn't cross the sex line." He wouldn't go into detail.

Sanford said the casual encounters happened outside the U.S. while he was married but before he met Chapur, on trips to "blow off steam" with male friends.

Sanford also admitted he saw Chapur more times than previously disclosed, including what was to be a farewell meeting in New York chaperoned by a spiritual adviser soon after his wife found out about the affair.

And then there's this classic stupid statement:

During an emotional interview at his Statehouse office with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Sanford said Chapur is his soul mate but he's trying to fall back in love with his wife.

Um, Governor? Dude, shut up. I've only been married once, but I can tell you that you don't tell your wife that someone else is your "soul mate". Not if you *want* to stay married, anyway. And the "trying to fall back in love" with her line? Whoa. That is not the way to woo, dude. Particularly when it is part of your press conference.

Man, this guy needs to be kicked out of office. Not because of his "indiscretions." Not because he misused state funds. Not even because he left the state without a clear legal authority ready to deal with an emergency. (Though those are all good reasons). But because he is just plain too stupid to be left in charge of state government.

Part of "The Family"

I listened to a very interesting piece on NPR yesterday about a group called "The Family" that has been around since the 20's. Sanford is part of that group.

I think I'm going to order that author's book.

Thing is, I don't think he wants to stay married. But he doesn't have the guts (or insight) to say so, so he's blathering on until his wife finally says "Out you go, bunkie." Then he can take off with his Argentinian beauty while simultaneously telling himself that he really really tried to save his marriage and it's all his ex-wife's fault that it's over. Classic tactic, really.

Jim, you are overlooking one very important fact

Mark Sanford is not gay. Not only will he remain in office, but he'll probably get sizable support from the GOP base when he runs for President in 2012. All sins are forgivable in the GOP excepting one, and even then a wide stance can be used as a mitigating circumstance.

Never mind

I still can't figure out how to post an image in a message :(

Step-by-Step

1. On the internet, or on your own personal image site like Flickr or Picasa, locate and note the URL of the image that you wish to post. Select and Copy (Ctrl-C) it. (Flickr and Picasa actually have a "Share" button or field that'll give you the URL.)

2. Note the Height and Width of the image in pixels. Usually, you may right-click on the image in a web browser and choose "Properties" or "Inspect Element" to see the Height and Width of an image.

2. In UTI, in a Post or Comment window, click the "Image" icon above. It looks like this:

3. The code to place an image will be placed within your comment. The code looks like this:

<img src="http://www.unscrewingtheinscrutable.com/images/replacewithmyimage.jpg" width="replacewithwidth" height="replacewithheight" />

4. Replace the "unscrewingtheincrutable.com" URL with the URL from your image.

5. Replace the "replacewithheight" and width with the actual height and width of the image. (PLEASE NOTE: If you don't have the height and width, simply delete those attributes. In other words, end the tag with /> right after the URL. That is to say, space, forward-slash, right-caret.

6. Preview your comment or post to see if it looks OK, then post it.

Let me know if this helps!

Thanks, Brent

It does help, but I thought I could upload a picture into the "create content" portion, then use that URL. That didn't work, so I'll just use the method you described. Will a picture I post on facebook work?

Translation - I never had sex, but I've been getting blowjobs worldwide since I've been married.

The Sanford Wives

I was reading something yesterday that suggested the "new" political wives are dealing with scandals by just backing off and living their own lives, rather than making the traditional "stand by your man" show.

Sanford's wife appears to be following this new model: "His political career is not a concern of mine."

In the real world, I don't think these things should intersect with politics. But damned if I don't think the party that made it such viciously important news during Clinton's presidency shouldn't suffer from it too.

They spent 8 years serving up shit sandwiches. It's time for them to sit down and eat.

Yeah, she'll forgive him

According to some current reports Jenny Sanford is considering forgiving her husband. After he admitted that another woman is his soul mate? I guess the money is good, or something - maybe she remembers how Hilary Clinton stood by Bill, and now she's Secretary of State. Maybe Jenny sees forgiving her husband as a stepping stone to her own political career.
