Al Qaeda terror cell plans bombing at Falwell Funeral

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The leader of an Al Qaeda terror cell fanatically loyal to Osama Bin Laden left a "martyrdom tape", indicating his plans to use Improvised Explosive Devices to slaughter an opposing religious sect at the funeral of the Rev. Jerry Falwell, Homeland Security authorities said Tuesday after foiling the plot. Three additional terrorists who conspired to pull off the attack were still being sought.

Oops, sorry about that. What the news report actually said was this:

LYNCHBURG, Va. - A Liberty University student who told a family member he had made bombs and planned to attend the funeral of the Rev. Jerry Falwell was apparently upset about an anti-gay fringe group that protested at the funeral, authorities said.

Officials were still trying to figure out what Mark David Uhl planned to do with the bombs. Police do not believe he intended to disrupt the funeral Tuesday or harm the Falwell family, Campbell County Sheriff Terry Gaddy said.

What a three-ring circus. Evidently this student was planning on "disrupting" the protest by the nutty Westboro Baptist Church clan, who had issued their own fatwa, er, excuse me, 'News Release' (no link - you can find it on their website, which I will not link to), saying:

WBC to picket the funeral of Rev. Jerry Falwell - at 12 noon, Tues., May 22 - at Thomas Road Baptist Church, I Mountainview Rd., Lynchburg, Virginia.

In religious protest and warning: "God is not mocked!" Gal. 6:7. God Hates Fags! & Fag-Enablers! Ergo, God hates Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham, Pat
Robertson, and all such Arminian heretic preachers - from fundamentalist evangelicals to openly gay Episcopalians and pedophile Catholics - all of whom have created the Satanic Sodomite Zeitgeist wherein America has irreversibly gone the way of Sodom.

There is little doubt that Falwell split Hell wide open the instant he died. The evidence is compelling, overwhelming, and irrefragable.
Furthermore, WBC has warned Falwell through the years, that if he did not repent, we would picket his funeral.

That's rich - calling Jerry Falwell "soft on gays". Talk about your purity trolls...

So, in reaction to this protest, this Liberty University student Uhl made these napalm-like bombs, with which he was going to scare off the Phelps clan or something. Yeah, sure, the cops arrested him, and are trying to find out who helped him...but is there any doubt that had there been any kind of "Islamic" connection to this whole fiasco, the whole thing would have been covered completely differently in the press? But since it was a good Christian boy, it can't be *that* serious, can it?

This points up the extent of the danger of religious fanaticism of any extent, and is a pretty good demonstration of why a secular society should be desired by even the faithful. Because once people become convinced of the correctness of their beliefs, not even their co-religionists are safe. The current civil war in Iraq is a good example of this, as Sunni and Shia branches of Islam fight for dominance. And even a cursory glance back at the history of Christianity will show that heresy was ruthlessly suppressed, not to mention the religious wars in Europe associated with the Protestant Reformation. Jerry Falwell was no slacker when it came to vilifying gays, atheists, liberals, well just about anyone he disagreed with, to be honest. Yet you have a kook like Phelps who is willing to protest his funeral because he wasn't hateful enough. And in response, some follower of Falwell was willing to make a few bombs...and, well, welcome to "Christian America".
