God or Yankees?
I love how kos has a poll on "Which is the biggest Richardson pander" - his claim that he is a fan of both the Red Sox and the Yankees (which I think is both a physical not to mention moral impossibility in New England) or his claim that Iowa must come first for Biblical and Constitutional reasons. Maybe if he said he is both a Mets and a Yankees fan, the baseball one would have more than 36% of the votes.
OTOH, maybe a lot of the voters are objecting to his placing of IOWA first, instead of their home state. Coming from the sovereign state of Texas, I just KNOW that is a complete and utter impossibility. Dietical involvement or not, politics irrelevant.
I think that's supposed to be a joke
Richardson has a very strange sense of humor. Here in Iowa, a lot of his TV commercials have had a humorous bent. I think his problem isn't that he's trying to inject God into the campaign, but that his off the cuff jokes don't translate well into newspaper quotes. Either way, he keeps putting his foot in his mouth and I'm sure he's driving his campaign staff up the wall with the wake of destruction he leaves every time he says something.
Jesus the Joker
Ya, I can see how that could be a joke. My wife and I will make the same types of jokes, just randomly throw in a quick "Because God willed it" or "because Jesus loves you" when you least expect it. If he does have that type of sense of humor, "God Bless Him" (see, another joke).
