"Dumbledore is gay."

From Newsweek:

In front of a full house of hardcore Potter fans at Carnegie Hall in New York, Rowling, sitting on the stage on a red velvet and carved wood throne, read from her seventh and final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," then took questions. One fan asked whether Albus Dumbledore, the head of the famed Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, had ever loved anyone. Rowling smiled. "Dumbledore is gay, actually," replied Rowling as the audience errupted in surprise. She added that, in her mind, Dumbledore had an unrequited love affair with Gellert Grindelwald, Voldemort's predecessor who appears in the seventh book. After several minutes of prolonged shouting and clapping from astonshed fans, Rowling added. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy."

This is certain to drive a whole lotta Harry Potter-hatin' fundies just completely around the bend...

The Gay Agenda

Flipping channels, I happened to stop on O'Reilly. Oh my non-existant god, it was too funny!

Now JK Rowling and the Harry Potter series are part of what O'Reilly calls the "gay agenda." Apparently this gay agenda is a conspiracy meant to indoctrinate children into the gay lifestyle. I know you think I am making this up, but it's true. I will look for a transcript tomorrow.

LOLCats react.

And this is a bad thing?

Not in the slightest. I kind of picture this as the response.

Subtlety in the back-story

That reminds me of Mary Doria Russell's "Children of God" (one of the best books I've ever read - SF that can stand in any company) One of the main characters, a Catholic priest, admits (more or less) that he is gay, simply saying, "We're not all abstaining from the same things."

I can hear it now...

"What was Rowling thinking? How could she have a gay headmaster at a school for children!"

To which I would reply, "She said he was gay, not a pedophile. Come on, it's not like he was a Catholic priest."
