Assud the Hamas Jihad Bunny

Dirk Diggler's picture

First of all, let me say that I am fairly sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian people. One of the most amazing and dynamic professors I had in college was this man. However, the conflict between the Israeli's and the Palestinians is a huge mess that effects everyone in the world, directly or indirectly. Until a peaceful settlement can be reached, violence will be the regions main export.

Of course religion does absolutely nothing to help. As a matter of fact, religion is just another issue to divide us, cause more conflict and further complicate issues. That's why I get so upset when I see video's like this:

And here is a longer version.

There really isn't much to say. These people are sick. Using a kid's show bunny to spread their diseased religious hatred? I'm glad I didn't grow up watching Big Bird tell me that "martyrdom for the sake of Allah is what we hope for"!

I can understand people willing to fight an occupier, but to kill over a cartoon, is beyond me. What the fuck is wrong with this world? How come there are so few of us telling the rest that we don't need religion anymore?

[Saraa] What can we do for the Messenger?

[Inaas, 10 year old girl by phone] We can fight them because they cursed Allah's Messenger.

[Saraa] 'Tomorrow's Pioneers' army will redeem the Messenger, with their possessions and their blood, Assud, and will not let them repeat this attack.

[Assud] - If they repeat it we will kill them, by Allah.

[Saraa] - In His will.

[Assud] I will bite them and eat them!

This is large scale child abuse. How will these people ever learn to live together if this is what they are teaching their kids?

As I said before, I am sympathetic but at the same time I know how stupid the whole conflict is. It sounds like manmade hell on Earth. When a terrorist attack is conducted the Israeli's perform collective punishments. The Israeli's bulldoze the family's house of a suicide bomber as a deterrant. For years, Palestinians have had to go through check points as if they are all suicide bombers. Curfews. Sniper towers. Random searches. Incursions. Revenge shelling. Segregation by roads and walls. New settlements in Palestinian territory.

Religion inspired atrocities continue on both sides. Two groups of people believe God gave them the same strip of land. Hitchens said it the best, "God is not great."

Double Standards

First of all thank you Mr. Diggler for welcoming me to this site.

I appreciate that you are some what

sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian people

i understand that you found that video disturbing, but all the way no word for those who draw the anti-islamic cartoons.

I call it double Standards.

These people are sick. Using a kid's show bunny to spread their diseased religious hatred?

And those people are not at all sick who are spreading DISEASED HUMAN HATRED by again and again reprinting those Cartoons in the name of freedom of speech.

If that is okey with the freedom of speech there then whats the problem here????

I am not at all supporting this. But i am not at all pleased with the way you have portrayed it.

Delicate Sensibilities

First of all, to be clear, I find all supernatural beliefs ridiculous and worthy of ridicule. There is no double standard here. I think Christianity, Islam, Judaism and all other religions past and present are pure, man-made nonsense. As far as I know, there is no god. There is exactly the same amount of evidence for Allah, Yahweh and Jesus as there is for unicorns. That is to say, none. Zero. Nada.

You my friend, are probably the one with a double standard, as are most religious people. Most people who believe in a god of one certain religion, live in a bubble of delusion. You are able to clearly see how other religions are just fantastic fairytales that no rational person could believe. But when it comes to your religion, rationality and critical thinking go right out the window.

This is pretty good little 10 minute video that shows how Christians are delusional. But be careful. There is a small part of the video that is critical of Muslims too. Watch out for your delicate sensibilities, you might get offended.

About the cartoon...

And those people are not at all sick who are spreading DISEASED HUMAN HATRED by again and again reprinting those Cartoons in the name of freedom of speech.

I don't think you understood my previous post.

I have no problem with the cartoon. The cartoon paints Islamic radicals who blow people up as evil. Good, they are. I don't find the cartoon hateful and diseased. I think the cartoon makes a good point. That point is that too many Muslim extremists are turning into terrorists. We know that doesn't mean that every Muslim is a suicide bomber. We all know that. You don't have to explain it. It's just a cartoon.

If making fun of people who blow up planes offends you, then we have problems. However, if you were to ask me, do we have people like this in America, I would have to say yes. We have Christian fundamentalists who blow up abortion clinics and kill doctors. The problem isn't is bad as you have in many Islamic countries, but it's still a problem. Maybe you should draw a cartoon?

Maybe making fun of religion is off limits in your world, but not mine. It's called freedom of speech. If you want to make fun of someone's religion, go ahead. I won't stop you. I would even say to make fun of my religion, but I don't have one. Instead, you can make a cartoon about me. You have my permission.

I can't imagine living in a place where I wouldn't have freedom of speech. I can't imagine living in a place where I could be stoned to death for heresy. I can't imagine living in a culture who wants to kill over a silly cartoon. I can't help but feel a little sad for you and the people who live in your part of the world that don't have the same freedoms I have.

Did you see the videos that bernarda posted about the Israeli children? Those are pretty sick too. If you think I only condemn Muslims for their bad behavior, stick around and keep reading. I get after anyone displaying religious hatred.

I am not at all supporting this. But i am not at all pleased with the way you have portrayed it.

I'm sure their are many things we disagree about. Of course you are free to find another blog where everyone thinks just like you do, but I hope you stay. It's healthy to hear other opinions for me too. And chances are you will be offended again by my words. Sometimes exhanging ideas can get messy. But maybe you will think about what I am saying and change your mind some day? I can only hope.

Shari's picture

I am not changing my mind

Well as far as cartoons are concern you can make havoc out of me or those bloody suicide bombers (Idiots are killing them selves and destroying image of Islam too). I won't at all mind. But what those cartoon portrayed was no suicide bomber that was the most loved persons of all Muslims our Prophet (Peace be upon Him). and we don't like anyone disrespecting him in name freedom of speech or anything.

As far as changing my mind is concern, you won't succeed because i am fully convinced that Islam is the true religion.

Well I'll try to stay here. If you have any concern you can ask, I am not scholar of Islam but I'll try to answer to best of my knowledge and for those things i don't know either I'll say i don't know that buddy or I'll try to find out and tell you all

Take care

Freedom of Speech

"and we don't like anyone disrespecting him in name freedom of speech or anything."

In all open-mindedness, let me just say this:

You don't even understand the CONCEPT of freedom of speech. If I only get to say or do the things some distant religious authority approves of, and if I stray from that limited set of behaviors on pain of imprisonment or death, there is no such thing as freedom of speech. Or even thought.

THIS is freedom of speech: Mohammad Dress-UP http://www.muhammaddressup.com/

Highly offensive to you, perhaps, but it doesn't bother me a bit. BECAUSE I'M NOT MUSLIM.

“Freedom” means I have a right to be not-Muslim (and not-Christian) in every way, large and small. I get to laugh at Jesus ( http://www.jesusdressup.com/ ), I get to laugh at God, I get to laugh at Shiva, I get to laugh at the idea of Mohammad dressed as a pig, riding a flying donkey, carrying a jack-o-lantern and wearing fuzzy slippers. (Ha-ha! See? I laugh.)

The dopey thing about all this is those Muslims who don’t understand that the more they riot and burn and kill over stuff like this, the less influence Islam will have. Sure, Muslims can kill a few people who disrespect Islam. The result, though, in a world that values courage more than cowardice, is that every death will chip away at Islam more and more, until eventually the whole religion is a joke – deserving no more respect than a man who beats his wife.

The day of forcing people to “respect” your religion is over. Gone. Ended. Islam’s day of forcing people to observe it is ending.

Here’s the way the world works TODAY: Be a Muslim if you choose. Be a Christian if you choose. But nobody gets to force anybody else to be a Muslim, or a Christian, or any other religion. Not even a little bit. Not even in the small way that everybody else has to solemnly “respect” the things you believe.

That’s just the way things are. If it makes you unhappy, the real thing that’s making you unhappy is your own frustration that you can’t force other people to believe as you believe.

Which means there’s something wrong with YOU.

You know . . .

...I am struck just how much our friend Shari here sounds like John Shore with the whole "respect" thing.

Indoctrination on both sides

Fair is fair. Here is what illegal Israeli settlers have their children do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mO8CWSam2o&feature=related

Part of the solution is simple. Israel has to remove all of the settlers and all of its soldiers, none of whom have any right to be there. Period. There is nothing to discuss about it.

You can find many more such videos, like the following.

Although i understand and

Although i understand and agree with your outrage, this is official Hamas TV. What do you expect, 50 years into the occupation... understanding ?

Also, you say God brings

Also, you say God brings more problems. But don't you know that God helps people live on with their suffering. Believing that there's a grand scheme to all this shit soothes their pain. In a sense, you could say their sanity depends on it.

So what would happen if you took God out of the equation ? You would have a People with hundreds dying, in despair, in danger, and for nothing. Just for the right to live on its own soil. How would you deal with this ? Personally, I think I'd go crazy if i wasn't absolutely sure there was a way out, or some super-being watching over all of it.

I'm tempted to take the old catholic stance here : it's easy for the wealthy to be atheist. And compared to the Palestinian people, we are indeed very wealthy.

decrepitoldfool's picture

"Without god in the equation"

Without god in the equation I might stop trying to frame everything in terms of cosmic justice and see if there wasn't something more practical I could do than making a bad situation worse with hatred over mythical beings.

This is not unique to Islam, btw.

Anonymous User's picture

The whole point of the post

The whole point of the post was that religion is what is fueling the fire. Sure, if somehow one could magically remove religion from the situation they would not have their comforting ideas to help sustain them, but the whole driving force placing them in such a hell would be gone as well.

Your argument is like saying a crack addict should stay on crack, just because taking more of the drug keeps them from having to go through the pains of detox...

littlehorn's picture

Sure, if somehow one could

Really ? That's not sure at all. You could very well have atheists believe they have a right to a part of land. And with extreme conviction. Remember for instance, that the Palestinians have been living there for centuries and centuries. Islam or not, I do not believe they could just give it up in an instant.

Also, you might advance the idea that religion makes people unreasonable. But that is not true at all. There are many religious Palestinians and Israelis who do come together. Some are even pacifists.

I believe the real enemy is education. Arthur Silber and Alice Miller talk about it on their blogs. You can't brutally teach your kids and then expect them to care for the pain of others. And isn't corporal punishment the norm in most households ?

Hank Fox's picture

Wow.

Man, that was creepy.

Jim Downey's picture

Now, Dirk . . .

. . . we all know that Islam is really a religion of peace:

This all thing told to you is all out of context and wrong.

Yeah, right.
