Well, shit.
We've lost one of the biggies:
Carlin, counterculture comedians' dean, dies at 71
LOS ANGELES - George Carlin, the dean of counterculture comedians whose biting insights on life and language were immortalized in his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine, died of heart failure Sunday. He was 71.
He was a brilliant comedian. An unapologetic atheist. A social critic. And he will be missed.
I'm just happy he'd gotten word that he was to be awarded the Mark Twain Prize this year.
Thanks, George.

We lost a legend
I'll forever remember him for his willingness to stand facing a sh*t blizzard without flinching, time and time again.
America lost part of what held it together.
Are they afraid someone would clean them?
Carlin was damn funny and damn right; not because he had to be but because he wanted to be.
What if everyone strove mightily each day to be correct and hilarious? A fundamentally better world? You decide.
He had a good run
The sun that rises on this day is a poorer sun for having lost him but a richer one for having known him.
Oh yeah, and...
Shit.
I read that this morning
I had the exact same response, Jim. "Well, shit." No other response seemed appropriate.
Does anyone remember the half-hour comedy he had about 10 years ago? It didn't last long, but I thought it was actually kind of funny.

There are only 10 types of people in the world;
those who understand binary and those who don't.
I do remember
I loved that show, and I'm kind of glad it had a short run, because I'm not sure it could have sustained a long run. One of the funniest moments on TV was when one of his friends decided he needed to get back to his youthful skill of stealing things, and he winds up stealing a statue of Jesus. He gets George to drive it somewhere else, and half the statue is sticking out of the cab's rear window. One of those moments that I laughed till it hurt.

Ahhhh...I just have a job
Ahhhh...I just have a job that starts at 3:30am...makes it easy to get the jump on that early news...
I remember listening to Carlin when I was 10...30 now and I hoped it would never end. I got to see him once in the Poconos. Best comedy show I've ever been to. I can't think of another comedian from this time frame that has done so much.
My favorite GC quote:
"Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money!"
What's yours?

"If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little."
FOXsports.com has his Difference between Baseball and Football routine posted. As a lover of both sports, I dearly appreciate his logic.
